UN; improve well-being: AMLO

According to the United Nations (UN), one billion people live with a mental disorder and every forty seconds there is a suicide resulting from national insecurity that involves, among other factors, crime.

This weekend the country’s governors met during the 48th ordinary session of the National Public Security Council (CNSP) in Alvarado, Veracruz, which was attended, among other state leaders, by the governor of the state of Mexico, Alfredo del Mazo Maza , headed by the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

There, López Obrador touched on a point that affects, causes frustration and disappointment to the citizens who are the object of some illegal act: that of corruption in the prosecutor’s offices. Before the governors, he urged to review the work of said state agencies that do not act fairly.

The head of the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Rosa Icela Rodríguez, in the face of the wave of violence that Mexican society is experiencing, mentioned that the pacification of Mexico is possible since she reported results that might be described as encouraging.
For example, he stated that compared to December 2018, when the current administration began, until October 2022 federal crimes decreased 27.3 percent; femicides, 20.8; kidnappings, 68.1; robberies, 18; fuel theft, 92.2. Of the intentional homicides, he specified that at the end of the month there will be 22 percent fewer victims than the maximum of July 2018.

About the prisons that were privatized, mainly to media magnates and that became a lucrative business, he said in the morning conference that the federal government negotiated a discount of 41 thousand 496 million pesos (of a total of 276 thousand 619 million) with the businessmen to whom Genaro García Luna, Secretary of Public Security in the six-year term of Felipe Calderón, granted the construction and operation of eight federal prisons.

This expenditure made by the federal government, with the taxes of the working class, is used by the companies to which the prisons were privatized to give the prisoners a supposed maintenance amounting to six thousand pesos per day for each inmate.

President López Obrador opined that this cost is equal to staying in a five-star hotel. But apparently the first president fell short because there are hotels of a much higher category that have these costs and higher such as those of great tourism or those classified as diamond.

López Obrador stressed that those local prosecutors who act illegally are an obstacle to moving towards peace since they are capable of reaching agreements with crime, since it has been proven that when prosecutors do not act fairly, crime rates skyrocket.

In short, what might be a factor to improve the mental and emotional health of the people of Mexico was mentioned by the president: acting once morest crime and combating the violence that afflicts the country, guaranteeing the well-being of the people, preventing corruption, perseverance and make a coordinated work of all the authorities.
