UN Human Rights Council suspends Russia World | Deshabhimani

United Nations
Russia has been suspended from the UN Human Rights Council over its military action in Ukraine. The action rests with the UN General Assembly. The resolution was supported by 93 member states. Twenty-four countries, including China, opposed it. 58 countries, including India, left. The resolution was passed following one-third of the countries left. Suspending a member state from the UN Committee is a rare step. In 2011, Libya faced a similar move.

Russia has said in a statement that it does not support the US resolution and will abstain. Russia has one more year on the UN Human Rights Council.
