UN High Commissioner: over 1.3 thousand journalists have been killed in the world over the past 10 years

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said during the World Economic Forum in Davos that more than 1,300 journalists have been killed in the world over the past ten years.

“The safety of journalists has become a particular concern. In the last ten years, I believe more than 1,300 journalists have been killed, because they wanted to make sure that we draw attention to situations (with violation of human rights.— “uh”), which are especially heartbreaking, and as a result they were not protected,” said Mr. Turk (quoted by RIA Novosti).

According to research According to UNESCO, 86 journalists were killed in 2022 and 55 in 2021. It is noted that last year the number of murders of journalists began to rise for the first time following three years of decline. The most dangerous countries for journalists in 2022 were Mexico (19 journalists killed), Ukraine (10) and Haiti (9), the study says.
