Measures to implement the 2030 Agenda and new initiatives linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These are some of the agendas that will be presented during the 78th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), which began on September 5th with the motto “Peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability”. In addition to the 193 Member States, business leaders also participate in conferences focused on the Global Compact.
As part of the UN General Assembly, the Global Compact Leaders Summit brings together on September 19 corporate and government leaders, UN officials, SDG stakeholders and civil society professionals for analysis and contributions to the advancement of this agenda.
The UN document “Financing for Sustainable Development Report 2023” shows that 574 million people, or 7% of the global population, might reach extreme poverty by 2030. Furthermore, in 2023, a record 339 million people will need humanitarian assistance, or one in every 23 inhabitants. With this, the Organization highlights the importance of debates and assessments on the advancement of sustainable goals.
To this end, the event aims, over the course of a whole day, to challenge organizations to move forward with credible goals aligned with the areas of the 2030 Agenda, such as climate action, minimum wage, water resilience, gender equality, among others. To this end, the event features a series of activities, such as plenary sessions, discussions, connections and an activation center with networking.
One of the organizations that will be present at the Leaders Summit is the Latin American Quality Institute (LAQI). Founded in Panama City, focuses on providing business intelligence to more than 3 thousand companies in Latin America each year, with the maintenance of quality regional infrastructure aimed at increasing and competitiveness of the Latin American economic system.
For the founder and main executive of LAQI, Daniel Maximilian Da Costa, the guidelines and experiences, as well as the organization’s advances, directed in accordance with the 10 principles of the Global Compact, will be exposed at this conference. “LAQI will be at this summit presenting, in a summarized and incisive way, the entire trajectory related to the Global Compact and absorbing new insights to achieve the future we want”, he comments.
He also highlights that one of the agendas supported by LAQI will be the importance of clear, objective and ethical communication, since the organization is a member of the Inter-American Press Society. “Through our Vice President for SDG Ambition, Douglas Roger Da Costa, we will be highlighting the need for an expanded vision for the unification of the public relations profession, the raising of professional standards around the world and the sharing of knowledge, as well as already defended by Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management”, highlights Daniel Maximilian Da Costa, who hopes that this theme, new among the banners of Latin American institutions, will become, in the near future, a new goal within the SDGs.
