The UN is working on finding a solution through which Russian banks will be able to conduct transactions under the grain deal. Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary General, announced this.
“One of the areas of work of Rebecca Greenspan (head of the conference on trade and development.— “uh”) and her team is to find a solution that would allow Russian banks, including Rosselkhozbank, to make payments and transactions,” said Farhan Haq at a briefing (quoted by TASS).
The grain deal was signed on July 22, 2022 by Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the UN. The agreement provides for the export of grain from Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea, and also involves the removal of restrictions on the export of Russian agricultural products. The agreement expires May 18.
Russia has repeatedly allowed a withdrawal from the deal due to non-compliance with the terms of the agreement. Thus, on March 13, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced “five systemic problems” of the grain deal. Among them: reconnection of Rosselkhozbank to SWIFT. On April 12, the representative of the UN Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric, said that the organization was discussing with those responsible for SWIFT the issue of reconnecting Russian banks to it.
