The United Nations expressed its concern regarding attacks on health facilities in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, while the Palestinian Ministry of Health in the besieged Strip announced that Israel is still arresting 26 medical personnel.

Following the World Health Organization’s announcement of 203 attacks on health facilities in Gaza and 224 in the occupied West Bank, since the beginning of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” on October 7, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said, “We expressed our concern regarding the aforementioned attacks. Health facilities should never be used.” In the conflict.”

Dujarric responded to the criticism directed at the United Nations’ statements regarding Gaza, saying, “We are subject to 360-degree criticism (from all sides) because of the terms we use or do not use.”

Speaking regarding the general situation in Gaza, he explained that despite the humanitarian truce, “there is still no improvement in water access to northern Gaza,” and stated that “water production facilities are still closed due to fuel shortages and damage resulting from the attacks.”

Dujarric said that his organization received data on the number of victims from the Ministry of Health in Gaza, and believes that the announced numbers are correct. He pointed out that the United Nations welcomes the extension of the humanitarian truce in Gaza and continues to call for a ceasefire for humanitarian reasons.

The World Health Organization confirmed that it had documented 427 attacks launched by Israel on health facilities in the besieged Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, since the beginning of the war on October 7th.

She explained that the attacks resulted in the deaths of 560 people in Gaza and 6 people in the West Bank, in addition to wounding 718 others in Gaza and 40 in the West Bank.

Targeting medical personnel

On the other hand, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said that the Israeli occupation is still detaining 26 health personnel, led by the Director General of Al-Shifa Medical Complex, Muhammad Abu Salamiya, and called on all international bodies to “work seriously and immediately for their release.”

On November 14, the Israeli army stormed the Al-Shifa Medical Complex west of Gaza City, following besieging it for several days, during which clashes took place with members of the resistance in its vicinity.

On November 25, the World Health Organization announced that it had no information regarding the fate of the director of Al-Shifa Hospital, and said in a statement, “Abu Salamiya was arrested with 5 other health workers while participating in a United Nations-led mission to evacuate patients.”

Yesterday, Wednesday, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned of a health catastrophe in Gaza, and said, “The current living conditions in the Strip and the lack of health care may cause diseases that will kill a greater number of those killed as a result of the Israeli bombing of the Strip.”

The international official pointed out that regarding 1.3 million people in Gaza are currently living in shelters, and stressed that “there is now an urgent need for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, because the matter has become a matter of life and death for civilians.”

He explained that overcrowding, lack of food and water, basic hygiene requirements, poor sanitation and waste management, and difficulty obtaining medicines are factors that have led to tens of thousands becoming infected with various diseases, including acute respiratory infections, scabies, diarrhea, skin rashes, jaundice, and other health afflictions and diseases.

Since October 7, Israel has increased the stifling siege on Gaza, cutting off electricity and water from its residents and preventing the entry of food, medicine, and fuel supplies. However, the temporary humanitarian truce – which began on Friday the 24th of this month and was later extended – enabled some relief, medical and fuel aid to enter this besieged sector, but many parties confirm that this aid only meets a small portion of the population’s needs.
