Umarkot blasphemy: Senate committee summons IG

Taking notice of the matter, the chairman committee has summoned Inspector General Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon in the next meeting and has also asked for details of the incident.

On the intervening night of 18 and 19 September, Dr. Shah Nawaz was killed in an alleged police encounter in the limits of District Umarkot Sindhari police station. After which the Sindh government formed an impartial inquiry committee into the incident on September 20 on the news that his body was not allowed to be buried by the agitators and the body was allegedly set on fire.

On Dr. Shah Nawaz on September 16 on the social networking website Facebook Derogatory Charged for uploading content. After that, the residents of the area protested and during this time the police mobile was also burnt. Later, a case was registered against him.

Dr. Shah Nawaz’s wife has accused the Sindh Police that the police want to end the matter.

To investigate these incidents, the Sindh government formed a higher investigation committee. After which, Sindh Interior Minister Ziaul Hassan Al Najar has suspended 10 officials including DIG Mirpur Khas, SSP Mirpur Khas and SHO Sindhri.

On September 22, a large number of people came from different cities of Sindh to perform the funeral prayers of Dr. Shah Nawaz in absentia. Among them were social activists, nationalist leaders, Sufi artists and women.

On the other hand, an application has been filed in the Sindh High Court today to form a judicial commission on this matter. While the civil society of Sindh has announced to protest against these incidents in Umarkot yesterday. These people will also express solidarity by gathering in large numbers in Umarkot.

During the proceedings, the Senate Committee has also decided to conduct an inquiry against the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officials.

Chairman Committee Senator Faisal Salim said that ‘FBR officials are involved in smuggling and tax evasion, which have started harassing the people.’

He further said, ‘FBR is issuing notices to people unnecessarily, people associated with business are being harassed, FBR officials are supporting tax evasion, want to conduct inquiry against FBR officials. , will not allow FBR people to break the backbone. We have evidence against FBR.’

The committee later decided to recommend an investigation to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in the next meeting after gathering more evidence against the FBR officers.
