Ultimate Air Fryer Comparison: Tested Models & Expert Reviews

How did we test?

For this test we chose five popular air fryers with double baskets, all for sale in Dutch stores. Prices range from 112 euros for the cheapest model to 179 euros for the most expensive. Our test panel got to work in three rounds: the fries and snack round, the culinary round and the baking round.

The test took place in an outdoor setting on a cool day, inspired by Heel Holland Bakt. All air fryers were set to the same temperature and cooking time. For the fries round, we filled the baskets with two bami slices and two-thirds oven fries, both own-brand products from the supermarket. We followed the instructions on the packaging.

In this test we look at how the devices perform under the same conditions. It’s a snapshot that shows what you can expect from these models in everyday use.

Who are the experts?

The five air fryers were judged by a panel of experts:

  • Friture Zwerts’ family: Friture Zwerts has been a household name in Eindhoven for years. Johan van den Broek took over the chip shop from the Zwerts family in 2022. Together with his wife Jolanda and children Femke and Cas, the family continues to work on their artisanal fries. The chip shop has won the title of “Best Fries Tent in the Netherlands” eight times and attracts customers from far beyond Eindhoven, who come for their famous fries.
  • Jurino Ignacio: Jurino Ignacio, also known as Super Dushi Chef, is a culinary influencer who specializes in Antillean cuisine. With more than 210,000 followers on Instagram and 266,000 followers on TikTok, he has reached a wide audience with his recipes and cooking videos. His mission is to make Antillean cuisine more visible in the Netherlands and to show people how to prepare Caribbean dishes with a modern twist.
  • Julius Jaspers: Julius Jaspers has been a well-known face in the Dutch culinary world for years. He made a name for himself as a chef and became known to the general public as a jury member of the TV program MasterChef Netherlands. With his cookbooks and culinary knowledge he knows how to inspire both hobby chefs and professionals.

Round 1: fries and bami slices

We start with what is perhaps the most popular function of the air fryer: frying fries and snacks. For this test we used oven fries and bami slices from a well-known supermarket. According to the packaging, the fries had to bake for 16 minutes at 200 degrees. The bami slices, with a prescribed baking time of 12 minutes, were prepared at the same time in the other basket.

Thanks to the synchronization function of all devices, the fries and snacks were ready at the same time. However, 16 minutes turned out not to be enough to get the fries completely crispy, in any air fryer. Some fries remained limp and glassy, indicating that the times on the packaging may be too optimistic. The bami discs, on the other hand, did perform well in the test.

Rash:

1. Ninja Foodi MAX Dual Zone – ⭐⭐⭐1/2 – Ninja came out on top in this round. The fries were fairly crispy and cooked evenly. The bami slices were well cooked with a crispy outside.

2. Tefal Easy Fry & Grill Dual – ⭐⭐⭐ – Tefal performed well, but the fries sometimes lacked crispiness. The bami slices were well cooked, with reasonable crispiness and texture.

3. Philips 3000 Series Dual Basket – ⭐⭐⭐ – Philips scored well on even cooking, but had difficulty getting the fries crispy. The bami slices were crispy and well cooked.

4. Inventum GF800HLD – ⭐⭐ – Inventum was disappointing with the fries, which were unevenly cooked. The bami slices were slightly better, but they too were not cooked evenly.

5. Princess 182074 Double Airfryer – ⭐⭐ – Princess scored the lowest in this round. The fries were not crispy, and the bami slices came out of the air fryer unevenly cooked.

Round 2: the culinary round

Under the guidance of chef Julius Jaspers, we started working on a culinary dish: Korean potatoes with gochujang shrimp and kimchi. We use this to test how different air fryers perform when preparing potatoes, shrimps and vegetables.

Rash:

1. Tefal Easy Fry & Grill Dual – ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2 – The Tefal excels with perfectly crispy potatoes, firm shrimp and vegetables that are just the right point of doneness.

2. Ninja Foodi MAX Dual Zone – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The potatoes are excellent: nice and crispy. However, the shrimp are a bit on the dry side.

3. Philips 3000 Series Dual Basket – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The shrimp come out of the Philips excellently, and the vegetables are nicely cooked. The potatoes look crispy, but could have been a little firmer.

4. Princess 182074 Double Airfryer – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The potatoes are crispy and the shrimp have a fine structure, but the vegetables remain on the hard side.

5. Inventum GF800HLD – ⭐⭐⭐ – The potatoes from the Inventum are soft, but well done. The shrimp are very good, but the vegetables remain way too hard.

Round 3: the baking round

Jurino Ignacio tested the air fryers in the third round with Antillean classics: soseshi den mansa (sausage rolls) and tèrt di pruimu (plum cake). Can the appliances bake dough well and deliver an even result?

Rash:

1. Ninja Foodi MAX Dual Zone – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The best base for plum pie comes from the Ninja. The sausage rolls are good, but not fully cooked.

2. Tefal Easy Fry & Grill Dual – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – A strong result: the plum cake is baked above average, with an excellent texture. The sausage rolls also come out nicely from Tefal.

3. Inventum GF800HLD – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Standout among the sausage rolls: they are the best of all the appliances. The plum cake, on the other hand, is undercooked.

4. Princess 182074 Double Airfryer – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Good performance. Both the sausage rolls and the plum cake come out well in this air fryer.

5. Philips 3000 Series Dual Basket – ⭐⭐⭐ – The plum pie is well cooked and crispy, but the sausage rolls are not fully cooked and have an inferior texture.

Who is the ultimate winner?

Five air fryers with double baskets competed against each other in three rounds: fries and snacks, culinary dishes and baking performance. It was an exciting battle, but in the end one model managed to rise above the rest and take first place…

1. Ninja Foodi MAX Dual Zone – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – With a final score of 4 stars, the Ninja is the winner of this test. This air fryer scored best in the first round (fries and bami slices), where the fries came out reasonably crispy and evenly fried. In the culinary round (potatoes, shrimps and vegetables), the Ninja managed to prepare excellent potatoes.

2. Tefal Easy Fry & Grill Dual – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The Tefal follows with a final score of 4 stars, only just behind the Ninja. Although the Tefal was slightly less impressive with the fries in the first round, this air fryer excelled in the culinary round, where both the potatoes and shrimp were consistently good.

3. Philips 3000 Series Dual Basket – ⭐⭐⭐1/2 – With a final score of 3.5 stars, the Philips comes in third place. This air fryer managed to impress in the culinary round with the shrimps and well-prepared vegetables, although the potatoes were a bit too soft. In the baking round, the Philips did well with the plum cake.

4. Princess 182074 Double Airfryer – ⭐⭐⭐ – The Princess achieved a final score of 3 stars and finished in fourth place. This air fryer performed stable. In the fries round, the crispiness was a little less, but the bami discs were well cooked. In the culinary round, the Princess performed better: both the potatoes and the shrimps performed well, but the vegetables were too hard.

5. Inventum GF800HLD – ⭐⭐⭐ – With a final score of 3 stars, the Inventum finished in fifth place. The Inventum managed to surprise with the sausage rolls in the baking round. In the fries round, the results were less consistent, with unevenly cooked fries. In the culinary round, the shrimps were excellent and tasty, but the potatoes remained too soft and the vegetables too hard.

Battle of the Fryers: Who Will Emerge Victorious?

Ah, air fryers! The kitchen’s answer to the question, “How can I indulge in chips and still claim to be healthy?” A miraculous device that promises crispy satisfaction without leaving your waistline gasping for mercy. But let’s get to the real chicken (or in this case, fries) of the matter—how did our brave little fryers perform in this hotly contested battle?

How did we test?

We gathered five popular air fryers with double baskets—yes, folks, double baskets! Because who doesn’t want double the cooking power when trying to convince yourself that eating frozen snacks counts as dinner? Prices ranged from a mere €112 to a slightly more spendy €179, so everyone’s got a chance to fry their way to mediocrity!

Our test panel, clearly not spending their Saturdays in the gym, slaved away over three grueling rounds: the fries and snack round, the culinary round, and the “please pray for my diet” baking round. All this was conducted outside—because nothing says “food science” like cooking in the brisk open air. High-end culinary analysis or the start of a new reality show? You decide!

Who are the experts?

Now, if you’re wondering who these culinary gladiators were, let me introduce you!

  • Friture Zwerts’ Family: Winner of “Best Fries Tent in the Netherlands”—eight times no less! If their expertise doesn’t lend credence to this test, I don’t know what will.
  • Jurino Ignacio: A culinary influencer making Antillean cuisine vibrant in the Netherlands. His followers must be hungry for more than just likes.
  • Julius Jaspers: A TV MasterChef jury member. If anyone knows what ‘cooked’ means, it’s this man. Wearing an apron probably makes him feel powerful!

The battle begins with our beloved fries! We followed precise guidelines: fries for 16 minutes at 200 degrees, while two bami slices joined the party—like an unwanted guest who shows up after you’ve already hit play on Netflix.

Now, spoiler alert: turns out 16 minutes isn’t a magic number! None of our fries came out crispy; it was like we had a pool of soggy disappointment in every basket. But the bami slices? Well, they fared better—a real mid-season twist!

Pushing our fryers to their limits, we threw in Antillean classics like sausage rolls and plum cake. A perfect way to test if they were true bakers or just glorified enthusiasts!

Results:

  • 1. Ninja Foodi MAX Dual Zone – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – “Best in cake! Sausage rolls could’ve been better, but they’re popular at parties!”
  • 2. Tefal Easy Fry & Grill Dual – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – “Solid performance; ripe for decoration!”
  • 3. Inventum GF800HLD – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – “Best sausage rolls! But plum cake? Not so much!”

Who is the ultimate winner?

Drumroll, please! After three heated rounds, only one air fryer could emerge from the fiery oven of competition…

And the award for Best Air Fryer goes to…

Ninja Foodi MAX Dual Zone – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – With its donut-golden fries and scrumptious potatoes, it triumphed over culinary chaos!

Tefal Easy Fry & Grill Dual – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Close to victory, giving us mad culinary skills but a couple of soggy fries along the way.

Philips 3000 Series Dual Basket – ⭐⭐⭐1/2 – “While its fries flopped, it deserved a trophy for its shrimp prowess!”

Inventum GF800HLD – ⭐⭐⭐ – A solid contender that had its shining moments during the baking phase, but let’s just say it’s not here to win any potato contests.

Princess 182074 Double Airfryer – ⭐⭐⭐ – We can’t help but feel it could have taken the crown with a sprinkle of seasoning!

In conclusion, it seems that air fryers are like small children—some need a little more time and attention to really cook up a storm! But fret not, they all have something to offer in the kitchen buffet of life. Fry on, fellow culinary warriors!

How did we test?

In this comprehensive testing process, we handpicked five widely favored air fryers featuring double baskets, all readily available in Dutch retail outlets. The price spectrum ranged from an economical 112 euros for the most affordable model to a premium 179 euros for the top-tier offering. Our specialized test panel engaged in a meticulous evaluation across three distinct rounds: the fries and snack round, the culinary exploration round, and the baking assessment round.

Conducted outdoors on a brisk day, the test drew inspiration from the celebrated Dutch cooking competition, Heel Holland Bakt. Each air fryer was calibrated to operate at the identical temperature and cooking duration to ensure a fair comparison. During the fries round, we filled the respective baskets with two bami slices accompanied by two-thirds of oven fries, both sourced from a leading supermarket brand, following the cooking guidelines on their packaging.

In this testing methodology, we assessed how each appliance performed under uniform circumstances, capturing a clear snapshot that reflects realistic expectations for daily usage of these models.

Who are the experts?

A team of distinguished experts evaluated the five air fryers:

  • Friture Zwerts’ family: Friture Zwerts has established itself as an iconic name in Eindhoven for many years. Johan van den Broek assumed ownership of the esteemed chip shop from the Zwerts family in 2022. Working alongside his wife Jolanda and their children, Femke and Cas, they continue the legacy of crafting artisanal fries. This beloved chip shop boasts an impressive record, having been awarded the title of “Best Fries Tent in the Netherlands” eight times, drawing in patrons from far and wide, all eager to indulge in their legendary fries.
  • Jurino Ignacio: Renowned as Super Dushi Chef, Jurino Ignacio is a culinary influencer celebrated for his expertise in Antillean cuisine. With a substantial presence on social media, including over 210,000 followers on Instagram and 266,000 on TikTok, he has successfully shared his vibrant recipes and engaging cooking videos. His goal is to elevate the visibility of Antillean gastronomy in the Netherlands, demonstrating how to prepare Caribbean dishes infused with modern flair.
  • Julius Jaspers: A prominent figure in the Dutch culinary scene, Julius Jaspers has gained renown as a chef and as a respected judge on the TV show MasterChef Netherlands. His extensive experience, coupled with his cookbooks, inspires both amateur cooks and seasoned professionals.

Round 1: fries and bami slices

We initiated our test by focusing on what is arguably the most sought-after capability of any air fryer: frying fries and snacks. For this round, we utilized oven fries and bami slices sourced from a popular supermarket brand. According to the packaging instructions, the fries required a cooking duration of 16 minutes at 200 degrees, while the bami slices, prescribed for 12 minutes, were prepared simultaneously in the other basket.

Thanks to the synchronization feature offered by each air fryer, both items were ready concurrently. However, the 16-minute cooking time proved insufficient for achieving the desired crispiness in the fries across all models. A number of fries emerged limp and glassy, suggesting that the cooking times indicated on the packaging might be overly optimistic. The bami slices, on the other hand, performed admirably during the test.

Rash:

1. Ninja Foodi MAX Dual Zone – ⭐⭐⭐1/2 – Dominating this round, the Ninja impressed with fries that were notably crispy and consistently cooked. The bami slices showcased a perfect balance, being well-cooked with a satisfying crispiness on the exterior.

2. Tefal Easy Fry & Grill Dual – ⭐⭐⭐ – Tefal garnered praise for its performance, though some fries exhibited a lack of crispiness compared to expectations. The bami slices emerged with commendable cooking, presenting a reasonable level of crispiness and texture.

3. Philips 3000 Series Dual Basket – ⭐⭐⭐ – Philips secured a solid evaluation with its even cooking performance; nonetheless, it faced challenges in achieving the ideal crispiness for fries. The bami slices, however, were prepared excellently, exhibiting both crispiness and proper cooking.

4. Inventum GF800HLD – ⭐⭐ – Inventum fell short of expectations as the fries displayed uneven cooking results. While the bami slices performed slightly better, they still did not meet the desired uniformity in cooking.

5. Princess 182074 Double Airfryer – ⭐⭐ – Princess ranked the lowest in this round, with fries lacking the hoped-for crispiness, and bami slices that emerged from the fryer unevenly cooked.

Round 2: the culinary round

Under the expert guidance of chef Julius Jaspers, we delved into crafting a culinary masterpiece: Korean potatoes adorned with gochujang shrimp and kimchi. This round sought to evaluate the air fryers’ performance in preparing potatoes, shrimp, and various vegetables.

Rash:

1. Tefal Easy Fry & Grill Dual – ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2 – The Tefal excelled by delivering perfectly crispy potatoes alongside firm shrimp, while the vegetables achieved an impeccable state of doneness.

2. Ninja Foodi MAX Dual Zone – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The Ninja produced excellent potatoes with a delightful crispiness; nevertheless, the shrimp tended toward the drier side.

3. Philips 3000 Series Dual Basket – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Philips excelled with its shrimp preparation, ensuring that the vegetables were skillfully cooked. Although the potatoes displayed a crispy appearance, they could have benefited from being a bit firmer.

4. Princess 182074 Double Airfryer – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The performance was commendable; both the potatoes and shrimp were crispy, but the vegetables remained somewhat on the firm side.

5. Inventum GF800HLD – ⭐⭐⭐ – Inventum’s potatoes came out soft but well-cooked; the shrimp stood out as very good, while the vegetables were far too hard.

Round 3: the baking round

In the third round, Jurino Ignacio subjected the air fryers to the test with Antillean delicacies: soseshi den mansa (sausage rolls) and tèrt di pruimu (plum cake). This round evaluated their capabilities in baking dough and achieving a consistent result.

Rash:

1. Ninja Foodi MAX Dual Zone – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The best base for plum pie emerged from the Ninja, though the sausage rolls were found to be good yet not completely cooked.

2. Tefal Easy Fry & Grill Dual – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – A remarkably strong performance: the plum cake was baked above the expected standards, showcasing an excellent texture. Sausage rolls also displayed commendable cooking results.

3. Inventum GF800HLD – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – A standout in the sausage rolls category, which were deemed the best across all appliances. The plum cake, however, was undercooked.

4. Princess 182074 Double Airfryer – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – A solid performance was achieved, with both the sausage rolls and plum cake coming out successfully from this air fryer.

5. Philips 3000 Series Dual Basket – ⭐⭐⭐ – The plum pie was well-cooked and crisp, yet the sausage rolls were not adequately cooked and exhibited a subpar texture.

Who is the ultimate winner?

1. Ninja Foodi MAX Dual Zone – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Grabbing the crown with an outstanding score of 4 stars, the Ninja reigns supreme in this evaluation. 5. Inventum GF800HLD – ⭐⭐⭐ – With a concluding score of 3 stars, Inventum’s dual basket air fryer displayed mixed results, impressing with sausage rolls during baking but struggling with unevenly cooked fries in the snack round.
