UltiMaker adds PET CF to material portfolio

UltiMaker adds PET Carbon Fiber (PET CF) to its line of high-performance filaments for its S-series 3D printers. Heat treatment can further increase the strength and temperature resistance of the filament.

The composite material is optimized for the UltiMaker S printers. It lends itself to a wide range of applications, ranging from 3D printing of spare parts, jigs and fixtures and production tools.

Higher strength

One of the most striking properties of the new filament is the ability to achieve even higher strength, stiffness and temperature resistance by annealing. By annealing printed parts, a temperature resistance of up to 181 °C is achieved and the strength is increased by up to 30% and stiffness by up to 10%. “The ability to achieve higher strength and temperature resistance through annealing sets it apart from other materials, while its versatility allows engineers to use it for a wide range of applications,” said Nadav Goshen, CEO of UltiMaker. He describes the new filament as an important addition to the portfolio.

Little sensitive to moisture

PET CF is not very sensitive to moisture compared to other carbon fiber materials and only needs to be dried to a limited extent. When stored in the UltiMaker Material Station, it remains well conditioned, ensuring reliable printing results with consistently high quality. The material is compatible with special support materials, such as UltiMaker PVA and Breakaway, giving users complete design freedom and the ability to create complex composite parts without limitations. UltiMaker offers PET CF in multiple colors including black, gray and blue.
