Gyeongsangbuk-do has decided to push victims of the Uljin forest fire to stay at the Deokgu Hot Spring Resort until they can find temporary housing. Deokgu Onsen is the only natural hot spring in Korea. The hot spring water that springs up from the valley in the middle of Mt. Eungbong is transported to the resort through a pipeline and used as hot spring water.
Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo held a meeting of the chief executive officer on the 7th and gave this order.
According to Gyeongsangbuk-do, as of the 7th, the Uljin forest fire had displaced 585 people from 530 households. They are temporarily staying at Uljin County Sports Center or Village Googwan.
Governor Lee said, “In cooperation with private organizations such as the Mobile Bank Association in the province, actively support the Uljin wildfire damage investigation, and secure temporary housing facilities for the victims within one week. etc., and come up with innovative measures in consultation with LH Corporation.”
He also urged, “Prepare temporary housing facilities at Deokgu Oncheon Resort until a temporary housing with water and sewage facilities is built by collecting opinions from the affected residents. He continued, “For port housing support for victims, consult with LH Corporation and Gyeongbuk Development Corporation, instead of waiting for government subsidies such as half-price housing support, devise and promote special support measures led by the Deputy Governor of Economy, and provide support for the affected residents by country. Take measures as much as possible,” he urged.
Meanwhile, Provincial Governor Lee Cheol-woo attended a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters held at the video conference room of Uljin-gun Office on the followingnoon of the same day and attended a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters. It was officially suggested that a special firefighting team be formed by hiring 50 new firefighters and providing 25 billion won in government funding for the purchase of special helicopters for fighting wildfires.
