The 54th chamber of the Brussels Criminal Court sentenced Yannick F. (25 years old) on Wednesday morning to 12 years in prison and 5 years of provision to the Sentencing Enforcement Court (TAP) for the rape of a student of 21 years old on the evening of December 28, 2022 on the ULB campus, in Brussels.
The man of Ivorian nationality, of no fixed address, was the only suspect in this case.
The prosecution had requested 12 years in prison and a “minimum” 5 years of release for the suspect at the end of his sentence. A protective measure requested because of the dangerousness of the attacker: experts had estimated that the man presented a high risk of reoffending.

The victim, a 21-year-old student in her first bachelor’s degree in bioengineering at the Free University of Brussels (ULB), was returning from a climbing course that evening. She had been lured to a dark corner of the Plain, where her attacker threatened, beat and raped her.

Yannick F. was released from prison at the end of September 2022, after a 30-month conviction for intentional assault and battery resulting in death without intention.
