Ukrainian Zelensky: “Debate with U.S. Biden to support defense and strengthen sanctions”

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on the 25th (local time) that he and US President Joe Biden had discussed defense assistance.

According to the New York Times (NYT), President Zelensky took to Twitter on the same day, saying, “I just had discussions with[President Biden]regarding tightening sanctions, specific defense assistance, and anti-war coalitions.” Linked.

The White House also confirmed that President Biden spoke with President Zelensky for regarding 40 minutes from 11:52 a.m. to 12:32 a.m. that day.

Russia recognized the independence of the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) and the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) in eastern Ukraine on the 21st and promised to send peacekeeping forces. This region is where pro-Russian separatists established their own republic.

After that, the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in earnest. The U.S. strongly opposes and is taking the lead in tackling Russian sanctions.

A senior US Department of Defense official told reporters today that Russian troops are heading towards Kiev. “We are facing more resistance than we expected,” he said.
