The adviser to the Ukrainian Presidency, Andrei Yermak, confirmed this Sunday the return of 130 Ukrainian soldiers in the framework of a “great exchange” of prisoners with Russia on the occasion of the celebration of Orthodox Easter.

“A great exchange of prisoners on the occasion of Easter,” Yermak announced on his Twitter account, accompanied by images of dozens of those released with the Ukrainian flag.

“130 of our men are returning,” added the adviser, before explaining that the exchange has actually occurred over the past few days and has taken place in different stages.

These are 92 soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 20 soldiers of the National Guard, 11 national guards, 3 border guards, 2 soldiers of the Navy and 2 representatives of the State Special Transport Service.

“All of them were captured in the Bakhmut, Soledar, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson directions,” Yermak noted.

“Hope is the quintessence of this holiday. This is exactly what the relatives of the prisoners felt following having waited so long,” he added.

Russia has not yet confirmed this exchange but the exchanges between the two sides usually include the same number of soldiers unless among those released are “special prisoners” of greater value.
