As the Territorial Defense Regional Board of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “North” reported on the Facebook social network, on December 30. O. Macijevskis and four other soldiers clashed with larger enemy forces in the vicinity of Soledar.
Around 12 o’clock at noon, the connection with Oleksandr was lost. Reinforcements failed to break through to their positions due to constant mortar fire and heavy small arms fire.
“We don’t know the full details of that battle. It is not known who was killed and how, it is not known how Oleksandr was captured, unfortunately there were no witnesses, all of them were killed or disappeared,” the statement of the Territorial Defense Forces said.
Oleksandr’s mother, his son Mikhail and soldiers from his unit identified Oleksandr in the recently released video of the execution.
O. Macijevskis was born in 1980. in Moldova, where his mother was assigned to work in a shoe factory. Oleksandr later graduated from high school and electrical engineering college there. Later, the family returned to Nižina, his birthplace.
Until 2022 in February, Oleksandr worked according to his profession. On the first day of the war, he tried to sign up for the army, but he was rejected. Then he helped build fortifications, guarded a road post, prepared Molotov cocktails and once more persistently applied for the armed forces.
March 11 he was included in the territorial defense battalion of Nižin. Oleksandr diligently studied warfare and was appointed a sniper.
In December, when the battalion was regarding to leave for the east, Oleksandr did not tell his mother that he was going to an active combat zone because he did not want her to worry.
December 29 Oleksandr spoke with his mother on the phone for the last time. January 7 the phone was “in range” once more, but it was his comrades who called to inform the family of his death.
In February, during the exchange of the bodies of the dead, the remains of O. Macievsky were handed over to the Ukrainian side. He was buried in his hometown on February 14. And now, a few days ago, the mother saw with her own eyes how her son was killed.
