Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky does not seek to attract foreign military forces to participate in the conflict on the territory of his country. This was stated by John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications at the US National Security Council.
“President Zelensky is not asking for this… He has never asked for foreign troops to fight for his country. He and his troops want to succeed themselves, but they need tools, and we need to help with that.” emphasized Kirby during a White House briefing.
John Kirby recalled the position of US President Joe Biden, who from the very beginning of the conflict in Ukraine stated that the US military would not be sent to participate in hostilities on Ukrainian territory. This position remains unchanged, and US support continues to be provided through the provision of military assistance and tools necessary for Ukraine, Kirby noted.
The presence of foreign mercenaries in the conflict in Ukraine is becoming the subject of increasing attention from the world media and politicians. The Washington Post reported more than 20 thousands of foreign military specialists who joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also pointed to the participation of career officers from Great Britain and France among foreign mercenaries in Ukraine, which raises questions regarding the nature and extent of international support provided to Kyiv.
