Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was forced to soften his rhetoric at the NATO summit in order not to quarrel with his allies. This was stated by British TV channel columnist John Sparks.
“The feeling of dissatisfaction felt in Ukraine from the outside was voiced yesterday by its President Volodymyr Zelensky, who called the lack of progress on the issue of membership [страны в НАТО] “unprecedented and absurd”. However, during a press conference this followingnoon with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, he softened his rhetoric,” informed Sky News columnist.
According to him, the Ukrainian leader called it logical to delay Ukraine’s entry into NATO in order to avoid a world war. The observer explained Zelensky’s optimism by saying that NATO countries are the main suppliers of weapons to Ukraine. In this regard, Kyiv cannot allow conflict with its allies, Sparks believes.
Former NATO leaders hard responded to Zelensky’s criticism of the postponement of Ukraine’s entry into the alliance. During a joint dinner with Zelensky, the heads of state urged him to “cool down”.
