Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who met with the pope, effectively rejected Pope Francis’ peace proposal.

President Zelensky met with Pope Francis at the Vatican on the 13th local time and urged him to stand on the side of Ukraine.

However, the Vatican has reportedly reiterated its position to act as a neutral mediator between Ukraine and Russia.

“I ask that Russia condemn the crimes committed in Ukraine,” Zelensky tweeted after the meeting, “because victim and aggressor are never the same.”

He then emphasized, “We talked about the fact that our peace formula is the only algorithm effective in achieving a just peace,” and “proposed to participate in its implementation.”
