In an interview with British media Channel 4 News, Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated this Friday his invitation to former American President Donald Trump to visit Kiev, the Ukrainian capital. The latter having repeatedly assured that he might end the war in just a few hours.
“Yes Donald Trump, please… I invite you to Ukraine, to kyiv,” said Volodymyr Zelensky. If you can stop the war for 24 hours, that’s enough to come to kyiv, whatever day I’m here,” he said in that interview.
The Ukrainian president would like to know Donald Trump’s solution to end a conflict that has lasted for almost two years (and even ten since the annexation of Crimea in 2014).
“He is very welcome to come, but I think he cannot end the war in 24 hours, without giving our territory to Putin,” he added, however. “He does not speak to both parties and does not know what our people need, which is why I find these statements very worrying,” said Zelensky, who legitimately fears a return of Trump to the White House.
After his landslide victory in the Iowa Republican caucus last week, Donald Trump claimed that “Russia would never have attacked Ukraine when he was in the White House” because “he and Putin get along Alright.”
Ukraine once once more asks the West to supply it with weapons
Mykhailo Podoliak, advisor to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, called on Ukraine’s allies to provide more weapons so the country can continue to defend itself once morest Russia. “The problem at this stage of the war is that the amount of weapons, drones, shells and artillery is not evenly distributed. We have to equalize it,” Mr. Podoliak explained to the German newspaper Bild on Saturday.
And President Zelensky’s advisor to encourage allied countries to move from words to action. “Long-range missiles, drones, grenades, artillery. The number of weapons (delivered) must be significant”. Ukraine urgently needs high-tech weapons, he said.
The supply of additional weapons and ammunition to Ukraine is at the heart of debates in the West. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz notably urged other European countries to redouble their efforts in favor of kyiv.
“The entire front line extends over 1,300 kilometers and the fighting takes place over a distance of 600 to 800 kilometers,” Mr. Podoliak said.
The difficult weather conditions had no impact on the intensity of the fighting. Despite its efforts, Russia has not made significant progress over the past year, assured the Ukrainian presidential adviser. “Russia threw masses of soldiers into battle, carried out secret mobilizations and sent many men to the front. She also gathered a large amount of equipment, but it was completely destroyed.”
According to Mr. Podoliak, Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to continue his war “until he has conquered all Ukrainian territory, until he dominates Europe, until he has conquered the other territories of the former Soviet Union”.
