Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has awarded a police dog the Medal of Honor, in honor of him for saving hundreds of lives in his war-ravaged homeland.
Jack the small dog was on a patriotic mission to sniff out Russian explosives, and since the beginning of the Russian invasion, the dog has discovered more than 200 bombs.
Ukrainian media reported that he recently helped defuse several explosive ordnance near Chernihiv.
The dog was honored for its bravery by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at a press conference in Kyiv.
“I want to honor the Ukrainian heroes who are already clearing mines from our land, this little expert helps not only neutralize explosives but also teach our children the necessary safety rules in areas where there is a threat of mines,” Zelensky said, pointing to the dog.
Myhlo Iliev, the dog’s shepherd and handler, was awarded the Ukrainian Medal of Honor for his service.
The dog has discovered several unexploded bombs and landmines everywhere in Ukraine. His job is only to search for explosives, while his team carefully works to defuse the bombs.
