The Ukrainian national football team will not refuse to participate in the European Football Championship-2024 due to the participation of the Belarusian team in the tournament. Earlier, the Ukrainian Ministry of Sports forbade the country’s athletes to participate in the same competitions with Russians and Belarusians.
“The Ukrainian national team will continue its official performances in the selection for the European Championship 2024,” Andriy Pavelko, president of the Ukrainian Football Association, said on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, banned in the Russian Federation and recognized as extremist).
According to him, the ban of the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine does not apply to the selection for the European championship, since the Ukrainian and Belarusian teams were separated into different groups as a result of the draw and even theoretically will not be able to meet in this tournament (the Russian team is completely suspended from participation in the qualifying tournament to the European Championship 2024 due to the military operation in Ukraine).
On April 14, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine published an official order banning the country’s national teams from participating in competitions where athletes from Russia or Belarus are present. In fact, we are talking regarding a possible boycott by the country of major international tournaments.
