Ukrainian media reported on the 18th, quoting intelligence sources, that the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense’s Intelligence Service (HUR) conducted a night drone attack that hit an oil depot near St. Petersburg, Russia.
According to the Kyiv Independent, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that it intercepted a Ukrainian drone over the Leningrad Oblast surrounding St. Petersburg in the early morning of that day. Multiple Russian channels of the social media “Paper Planes” reported that a drone was shot down over the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal area in the Gulf of Finland. The drone allegedly exploded on impact, causing the fire.
Sources told Ukrainska Pravda, “This is a defense intelligence operation involving modern Ukrainian assets. Data collection is still ongoing and there are confirmed strikes on targets.” They also said that the drone showed ” Military installations in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Oblast are within the scope of Ukraine’s armed forces.”
The source said that this attack “is not the first time” that Ukrainian drones have attacked the Leningrad Oblast, “but this time there is a difference, and the enemy has already felt it.”
