Fugitive ex-commander Wagner testifies
[London Kyodo]A man who is said to be a former commander of the Russian private military company “Wagner”, who left the front line of Ukraine invaded by Russia and fled to Norway in northern Europe and sought asylum, was announced on January 31 by the Norwegian state broadcaster NRK. In the interview he reported, he testified that the front line was a “hand-to-hand battle” in which tanks fought with machine guns.
The man is Andrei Medvedev (26). After four months of fighting in Ukraine, he crossed the Russian border into northern Norway on January 13, 2013. Norwegian police detained him on suspicion of illegal entry, but he was released in late January. According to NRK, Norwegian authorities are reviewing his asylum application.
