Drone Strikes Escalate ‍Tensions Between Ukraine and Russia

In a significant ⁤escalation of hostilities, Ukrainian drones ‍targeted industrial facilities in Russia’s Tatarstan and Kaluga regions‍ overnight on Monday. The strikes, wich focused on key ⁣aviation ‍manufacturing sites, marked one of the most audacious attacks on Russian soil⁢ sence the conflict began.

According to ⁣local authorities, the Gorbunov Aviation Plant in Kazan, Tatarstan, was among‍ the primary targets.⁢ The facility, owned by the Tupolev company, has been under ⁤EU sanctions since ‍December 2023 for its role in producing missile launchers and long-range bombers used in attacks against Ukraine. Social media reports described explosions in the area, with one drone reportedly crashing into an empty tank on⁣ the plant’s grounds. ‍While images and videos of the incident circulated on Telegram, their authenticity ‌remains unverified.

“This morning enemy drones attempted to attack industrial‌ enterprises in ‌the Republic. A number ‌of measures were taken to protect them, and ‍consequently, all drones were destroyed,” said Rustam⁣ Minnikhanov, the head of Tatarstan’s press department.⁤ Fortunately, no casualties or significant damage were reported.

In response to the attack,⁢ Russian aviation authorities temporarily suspended operations at airports in Kazan ‍and Nizhnekamsk. Simultaneously occurring, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that its air defenses successfully intercepted 31 Ukrainian drones, with 14 neutralized‌ over the Bryansk region, six over Kaluga, and⁤ one over Tatarstan.
