Ukrainian drone attempted to hit Kursk

The news was reported today Friday (23/8) by the Russian state news agency TASS, citing an unnamed source.

The drone was shot down near a spent nuclear fuel storage facility, the Russian agency added. The Kursk nuclear power plant is one of the largest in Russia.

Ukrainian forces shot down 14 of 16 unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) launched by Russian forces in an overnight attack, Ukraine’s air force announced today.

“Our air defense systems operated in Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Poltava and Sumy regions,” it said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Russia’s nuclear power company Rosatom announced today that the Russian-controlled nuclear power plant in Ukraine’s Zaporizhia is operating normally after its automatic systems shut down a high-voltage line.

An idle nuclear power plant relies on external energy to maintain the stability and safety of its reactors. Rosatom clarified that power is supplied to the station through another high-voltage line.
