MOSCOW (Archyde.com) – A Ukrainian drone started a fire at an oil refinery in southern Russia, Russian officials said on Wednesday, and a Russian town near the border was bombed for the third time in a week, damaging buildings and setting cars on fire.

And the day following Russia accused Ukraine of sending drones to attack buildings in the Russian capital, Moscow, the governor of Russia’s Krasnodar region said that the drone was the likely cause of a fire at the Avipsky oil refinery.

Governor Veniamin Kondratiev added on the Telegram messaging app that firefighting units quickly put out the fire and that there were no injuries.

The Avipsky refinery is not far from the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, near another oil refinery that has been attacked several times this month.

There is no information yet regarding who launched the drone, but Moscow has accused Kiev of increasing attacks inside Russia in the past few weeks, while Russia has repeatedly bombed Ukrainian cities with drones and missiles.

The situation in Ukraine was relatively calm on Tuesday night, as there were no reports of any major air raids, while earlier reports stated that attacks by Russian drones, yesterday, Tuesday, killed one person and injured 4 others in Kiev, according to Ukrainian officials.

The attacks inside Russia come as Kiev prepares for a counter-attack to expel Russian forces from the territory it has controlled since Moscow launched its own military operation in Ukraine in February 2022.

4 wounded by Ukrainian bombing of a border town

On the other hand, the governor of the Belgorod border region in Russia said today, Wednesday, that Ukrainian forces bombed a town near the border for the third time in a week, wounding 4 people, damaging buildings and setting vehicles on fire.

The governor of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, added in a statement posted on the Telegram application that two people were transferred to a hospital as a result of the artillery shelling that targeted the Russian town of Chebykino, regarding 7 kilometers north of the border with the Ukrainian region of Kharkiv.

He added that the shelling smashed windows and damaged the roof of an eight-storey residential building, in addition to four houses, a school and other facilities.

Four people were killed and 16 others were injured as a result of the Ukrainian shelling of the village of Karpaty in the Lugansk region, according to what was announced by the local coordination center set up by Moscow.

There has been no immediate comment from Ukraine on the latest bombing, but it almost never claims responsibility for attacks inside Russia or within Russian-controlled areas of Ukraine.

The center said on its Telegram channel that the shelling hit a poultry farm.

There has been no immediate response from Kiev, but it has never previously claimed attacks inside Russia or on Moscow-controlled territory in Ukraine.

Both sides deny targeting civilians in the 15-month-old war.
