Vadym had finally found some calm in recent years. This 56-year-old man, whose first name has been changed for security reasons, lives in Chtchastia. That is, “joy” in Ukrainian and Russian. This village located regarding 20 kilometers from Luhansk, the regional capital, had found itself in the heart of bitter fighting in 2014 and 2015. But it had been rather peaceful for three years, with only a few rare skirmishes.
