The Russian border town of Belgorod has closed schools and shopping centers for the time being due to increased Ukrainian attacks. “Based on the current situation, we have decided that shopping centers in Belgorod and the Belgorod region will not open on Sunday and Monday,” regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on online networks on Saturday. Gladkow had previously reported two deaths from rocket fire. A refinery burned in the Samara region.

Schools in the city and in eight districts of the region will remain closed on Monday and Tuesday, said Gladkow. Footage of burning buildings in Belgorod might be seen on social media. There, pro-Ukrainian militias are fighting once morest the authoritarian state. According to the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform, the pro-Ukrainian irregulars captured 25 soldiers. With a video, the “Russian Volunteer Corps” tried to expose the authorities’ statements that it had been destroyed as a lie.

According to its own statements, Russia repelled ground attacks on the border region. “Attacks were repelled and attempts to infiltrate the territory of the Russian Federation with Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance combat groups (…) were thwarted,” it said in a statement on Saturday.

After Ukrainian drone attacks on two oil refineries in Russia’s Samara region, one of the facilities was on fire on Saturday. Regional Governor Dmitry Azarov reported this on Saturday. Nobody was injured, he wrote in the short message service Telegram. Workers at both refineries were evacuated. In recent weeks, Ukraine has increasingly attacked oil processing facilities in its neighboring country in order to hit the war machine of the aggressor state. Footage circulated on social media on Saturday showing the fire at the Rosneft Group’s Syzran refinery. Emergency services are on duty, Russian media report.

The Russian secret service FSB announced that a suspected saboteur had been arrested in the Sverdlovsk region in the Ural Mountains. The 61-year-old is accused of planning a terrorist attack on the local railway infrastructure.
