Ukrainian forces say up to 100 Ukrainian soldiers are being killed in battlefields in the east every day.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Olexi Rezhnikow said on social media on the 9th local time, “The situation on the front lines is difficult.”
“Russia also continues to launch a mass offensive, but it is facing strong resistance and inflicting massive casualties,” Reznikow said.
Ukraine and Russia are currently engaged in an artillery battle for control of the eastern Donbas region.
The small town of Severodonetsk, a key point in Luhansk Oblast, is currently the biggest battleground, and the Russian army’s strategy to destroy the city has paralyzed the city’s functions.
After a failed capture of Ukraine’s capital, Kiiu, Russia retargeted the invasion to take control of the east.
The British weekly The Economist recently reported that the percentage of Ukrainian soldiers killed in combat is comparable to that of some battles in World War II.
The economist said that the Russian army is also losing as much as the Ukrainian army, and this war has entered a war of attrition that only increases damage without progress on either side.
