Ukrainian An-12 plane crashed in Greece, it could be carrying ammunition

A Ukrainian airline An-12 plane crashed west of the city of Kavala in northeastern Greece, local media reported. Firefighters were told not to approach the plane because it might be carrying ammunition. No injuries or casualties have yet been reported.

A representative of the Greek Civil Protection Service told the TV channel ERTthat the military sent a special group to the crash site, which should decide on the possibility of extinguishing the fire. “So far we have been told not to approach the plane. Perhaps there are ammunition there,” he said (translation from TASS). In addition, those at the crash site were advised to wear protective masks due to the specific smell.

The plane was flying from Serbia to Jordan, with eight crew members on board. It is alleged that he was on a commercial flight. Prior to the crash, the pilot requested an emergency landing at Kavala Airport due to engine failure. Ten nautical miles west of Kavala the signal was lost.

There are currently 15 fire trucks at the crash site. The airline that owns the plane has not been named. Eyewitnesses said that the crash occurred in a cornfield, there was a series of explosions. There is no light in the area where the plane crashed, it probably cut off the cables.
