Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat said late on the 16th that Ukraine will still not be able to operate US-made F-16 fighter jets during the upcoming autumn and winter seasons.
The Guardian reported that Inat’s TV marathon program simulcast on various Ukrainian channels pointed out that the situation has become obvious, “During this autumn and winter, we will not be able to defend Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and government officials have long called on Western allies to provide U.S.-made fighter jets to strengthen Ukrainian military operations. In May, U.S. President Joe Biden approved a training program for Ukrainian Air Force pilots to fly F-16 fighter jets. However, so far, European and American countries have not given a timetable for the supply of fighters.
Still, Inat said the Ukrainian army had great expectations for the F-16, “which will be part of an air defense system that will protect us from Russian missile and drone terrorism.”
