Ukraine’s Zaporiza nuclear power plant operator said on the 27th (local time) that there is a risk of radioactive material leakage around the nuclear power plant.

The Ukrainian state-owned company Energoatom warned that “Russian forces repeatedly bombarded the site of the nuclear power plant throughout the day,” AFP news agency reported.

Energoatom explained, “The (Russian) periodic bombardment caused damage to the nuclear power plant infrastructure, and there is a risk of hydrogen leakage and radioactive material escaping. The risk of fire is also high.”

The Japoriza nuclear power plant is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, and it is reported that some of the power supply lines and communication lines were damaged due to the bombardment on the 11th following the 5th and 6th. Also, on the 20th and 21st, shells were dropped, damaging infrastructure, including chemical facilities, in the nuclear power plant.

On the 25th, the last one of the four transmission lines connecting the power plant and the outside was damaged by a fire that occurred in the mountains near the nuclear power plant.

Ukraine and Russia are fighting each other for responsibility, accusing each other of being bombarded by fire.
