Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó thanks Bulgaria for a friendly gesture of supporting Hungary against Ukraine’s blackmailing actions.
On the sidelines of a conference in the Romanian capital Bucharest, Szijjártó announced that Bulgarian Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov had offered Hungary his country’s help after Kiev recently blocked Lukoil’s oil transports through Ukraine. As a transit country, Bulgaria blocked the flow of 5.6 billion m3 Natural gas to Hungary secured; this year already again from 3.9 billion m3There are no infrastructure connections for the transport of oil, but Bulgaria has offered its technical assistance, which Hungary greatly appreciates as a friendly gesture.
Ukraine’s misconduct is whitewashed in Brussels
Szijjártó reported that on Wednesday in Brussels, several member states tried to defend Ukraine in the form of a political position in the Trade Policy Committee. With its unfriendly step, Ukraine threatened “in black and white” the security of energy supplies to Hungary and Slovakia and violated the Association Agreement with the EU.
“These politicians are ignoring European solidarity within the community by trying to whitewash Ukraine’s misconduct,” said the Hungarian Foreign Minister. “We continue to expect the EU Commission to take a position, with the result that Ukraine will lift the illegal ban on oil supplies by Lukoil.”
Ukraine’s oil embargo – an act of international terrorism?
Szijjártó commented on the act, which according to lawyers can be classified as international terrorism, that Hungary and Slovakia had tried to diversify their oil sources immediately after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. An application was made to the EU Commission to expand the route capacity in Croatia from the direction of the Adriatic ports. “But nothing happened, or more precisely, the Croatians did not expand their capacity, but increased the transit fees fivefold.”
