Ukraine’s interior minister and his deputy were killed in a helicopter crash near a kindergarten in Kiev

At least 18 people, including the Ukrainian interior minister, his deputy and two children, were killed when a helicopter crashed near a kindergarten on Wednesday morning in the Kyiv region, according to Ukrainian police.

“We have information regarding 16 dead, including two children,” the police said in a statement.

The incident occurred in the city of Brovary, which had a population of regarding 100,000 people before the war with Russia, east of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.

In its statement, the police indicated that Interior Minister Denis Monastyrsky, his first assistant, another senior official and 6 other people on board the helicopter were killed.

The regional governor of the Ukrainian capital, Oleksiy Kuleba, later reported that the death toll had risen to 18.

“In the city of Brovary (the eastern suburb of Kiev):” A helicopter crashed near a kindergarten and an apartment building (…) there are victims,” ​​said the governor of the Kyiv region, Oleksiy Kuleba, on Telegram. “Ambulances, police and firefighters are working at the accident site.”
