General Milley, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said in an exclusive interview published on March 31 on Defense One, a military news website, that Ukraine is unlikely to expel all Russian troops from their homeland this year.
“Defense One” wrote that for the goals and hopeful aspirations expressed by policymakers, diplomats and defense leaders from Washington DC to Kiev, Ukraine, Admiral Milley conducted a grim reality check (Reality Check), ” I don’t think it’s likely to be done any time soon this year.”
Admiral Milley said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly stated publicly that Ukraine’s goal is to kick every Russian out of Ukrainian territory occupied by the Russian army. “This is a major military mission, very, very Very difficult military task. With hundreds of thousands of Russians in front of you in Russia-occupied Ukraine, I’m not saying it’s impossible, I’m just saying it’s a very difficult task.”
However, Admiral Milley went on to say, “This is their goal, of course they have the right to do it, this is their country. At this point, they have the moral high ground.” He also said that Russia has “failed” strategically and operationally, and “now they have also failed tactically.”
