Ukraine Stands Tall: Kamala Harris Forges Unbreakable Bond with Eastern Europe’s Besieged Nation

WASHINGTON (EFE).— The vice president of the United States and Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris, promised yesterday the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensky, that she will work so that Ukraine prevails in the war against Russia, and highlighted the importance of Washington maintaining its role as global leadership and do not be seduced by isolationism.

“I will continue to support Ukraine and work to ensure that Ukraine prevails in this war, so that the country is safe, secure, and prosperous,” the vice president said in a statement to reporters at the White House, standing next to Zelensky, with two American and two Ukrainian flags in the background.

Kamala also alluded to her Republican rival for the November 5 election, former President Donald Trump, although she did not mention him by name.

“There are some in my country who, if they could, would force Ukraine to give up large parts of its sovereign territory, who would make Ukraine agree to declare itself neutral, and who would force Ukraine to give up its security relationships with other nations,” Kamala Harris said.

“These proposals are the same as those of (Vladimir) Putin. And let’s be clear, these are not peace proposals. Instead, they are proposals for surrender, which is dangerous and unacceptable,” he said with special force.

Zelensky thanked the vice president for the solidarity she has shown to Ukraine in each meeting and asked her for her help in strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses to prevent Russia from continuing to attack the country’s cities and infrastructure, such as its electrical grid.

As he explained, he wants to talk to Kamala about what he calls his “Victory Plan,” the details of which are unknown, but whose fundamental component would be for Washington to accelerate aid to kyiv before Biden leaves power in January 2025.
