The US embassy in Ukraine said in a statement today, Saturday, that Kiev had received the first batch of US aid for security support, worth $200 million.
This comes following a visit by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to the country last week, amid concern Kiev and its Western allies regarding the build-up of tens of thousands of Russian troops on the border with Ukraine.
Russia denies it plans to launch a new military offensive.
Washington had agreed in December to the aid program, which includes providing 200 million dollars.
“The United States will continue to provide such assistance to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces in their continued effort to defend Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity from Russian aggression,” the embassy wrote on its Facebook page.
The Ukrainian Defense Minister thanked the United States for the assistance.
