Ukraine has collected more than $10 million in cryptocurrency donations since Russia began to invade the Black Sea region country, blockchain analyst firm Elliptic reported on Sunday.
The Ukrainian government had shared information on Thursday through its Twitter account of two cryptocurrency accounts – one for receiving Bitcoin and the other for receiving Ethereum and Tether.
“The addresses mentioned in the tweets have already received $10.2 million across 12,799 transactions,” the analyst firm said.
Elliptic noted that total cryptocurrency donations to the Ukrainian government and NGOs supporting the military now stand at $16.7 million.
Nearly $1.86 million of the money sent to the Ukrainian government was generated through the sale of a non-fungible token, or NFT, originally intended to raise money for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
“Several million dollars in cryptocurrency donations were also received by Come Back Alive, a Ukrainian NGO that supports the military,” Elliptic reported.
The majority of donations received so far have been in Bitcoin and Ethereum, although stablecoins in US dollars contribute a remarkable proportion, the platform said.
“But it’s not just cryptocurrencies that are being sent — people are also sending NFTs to the Ukrainian government’s Ethereum account,” he said.
