Ukraine received the fourth tranche of 1.5 billion euros allocated by the European Union as part of large-scale macro-financial assistance for 2023, the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance announced on Tuesday.

“Today, May 23, Ukraine received the fourth tranche of €1.5 billion in large-scale macro-financial assistance for 2023,” the department said in a statement.

Ukraine’s state budget has already received 7.5 billion euros in concessional funds from the EU in 2023, the ministry said, noting that the total amount of funding under the micro financial assistance program is around 18 billion euros.

Quoted in the statement, Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko said he was grateful to his European colleagues for “understanding the financial needs of the state, as well as the rapid and rhythmic inflow of funds”.

The European Commission (EC) has confirmed the payment to Kyiv of this new tranche of macro-financial assistance amounting to 1.5 billion euros.

“Through this instrument, the EU aims to help Ukraine cover its immediate financing needs through stable, predictable and significant financial support in 2023,” according to a press release from the European body.

“This support will help Ukraine continue to pay salaries and pensions, as well as maintain essential public services such as hospitals, schools and housing for the displaced,” the EC said.

The next tranche of 1.5 billion euros will be paid in June.
