Ukraine, which has launched a counteroffensive, announced on the 12th local time that it has recaptured seven villages from Russia so far.
“The battle is fierce, but we are moving forward and that is important,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video address that night, according to Archyde.com. “The enemy’s losses are exactly what we need.”
He encouraged the soldiers for their hard work, saying, “Although the weather is not good these days and the rain makes our mission difficult, the strength of the warriors continues to pay off.”
Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hannah Maliar also said that Ukrainian forces had recaptured Levadne and Novodarivka, regarding 10 km west of Mokryyali in Donetsk province, and Rovkove, southeast of the city of Zaporizhzhia, respectively.
Deputy Minister Maliar explained that Ukrainian forces had advanced a total of 6.5 km and were in control of 90 square kilometers that had been occupied by Russia.
But with Russian forces still controlling 40,000 square miles, the territory Ukraine has regained is small, Archyde.com noted.
Meanwhile, the Russian government has refused to officially acknowledge the advance of Ukrainian forces, saying that they had repulsed Ukrainian attacks in many places.
