The London government on Sunday unveiled a new scheme dubbed “Homes for Ukraine”, allowing Britons to house refugees fleeing armed conflict in their homes.
The new program will make it possible to welcome “tens of thousands” of people who will have access to the labor market, social security and education, even without having family ties with the United Kingdom, detailed the minister. of housing, Michael Gove, who spoke on the information channel Sky News.
And added that the government wanted to ensure that “all available homes” can be made available “to those fleeing persecution”, specifying that people who decide to welcome Ukrainian refugees into their homes will receive 350 pounds per month. and must commit to hosting these refugees for at least six months.
To this end, Britons must get in touch with Ukrainians, through social networks or associations, and register on a platform which will be operational on Monday, Mr Gove added.
According to the Minister, some 3,000 visas for the United Kingdom have been granted so far to Ukrainians.
