DAccording to the government, Ukraine has completely filled out the questionnaire for the application for EU membership handed over by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. As the deputy head of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office, Ihor Zhovkva, said in a television interview on Ukrainian public television on Sunday (local time), the European Commission must now clarify whether Ukraine meets the necessary accession criteria.
“We expect that the recommendation will be positive and then the ball will be in the hands of the EU member states,” he said. According to him, Ukraine expects to receive EU candidate status during the scheduled session of the European Council on June 23-24.
During her visit to Kyiv on April 8, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had promised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj an accelerated decision on the country’s admission to the international community. 3:02 a.m. – Municipalities are demanding that civil protection be strengthened because of the Ukraine war
The Association of Towns and Municipalities is calling for a “complete restart” in civil disaster control and civil protection. In addition to the dangers of climate change such as heat and floods, there are now war scenarios and cyber threats, said General Manager Gerd Landsberg to the newspapers of the Funke media group (Monday editions). A functioning alarm system, better equipment for the fire brigade and the stocking of food, medicines and equipment such as emergency power generators for clinics are necessary.
In view of the possible dangers of war, new concepts for shelters would also have to be developed. Landsberg called on citizens to make more provision for themselves. The state “cannot always be efficient everywhere, even in emergency situations,” he said. “That’s why, for example, stocking up on water and food for 14 days is the order of the day.”
01:00 – Aviation Industry – Do not expect major outages on oil embargo
According to its own assessment, the German aviation industry would be able to cope with an energy embargo once morest Russia. “We would see restrictions and higher prices. However, most of the oil used by the industry already arrives in the North Sea ports.
An embargo should therefore not lead to major losses,” said the President of the BDL industry association, Peter Gerber, to the newspapers of the “Funke Mediengruppe”. He also says he expects airline ticket prices to go up. “Kerosene costs are rising, but infrastructure costs are also rising because air traffic control services, for example, are passing on higher costs.”
00:00 – Newspaper – 1100 doctors want to help in Ukraine and neighboring countries
According to a media report, around 1,100 doctors from Germany have registered with the German Medical Association to help treat the sick and war-wounded in Ukraine or neighboring countries. Medical President Klaus Reinhardt tells the editorial network Germany that the response to a corresponding call is very impressive.
The German Medical Association is currently in talks with the Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry of Health and the embassies of Ukraine and the neighboring countries on how the doctors can be deployed as sensibly as possible.
