Published on Friday morning, excerpts from an interview with the head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, Andrei Yermak, who is considered one of Ukraine’s most influential political heavyweights following the resignation of several prominent military leaders and officials, are devoted to two issues – the delay in approval by the US Congress of a $60 billion aid package for Ukraine and the approaching presidential elections in The United States, threatening Kyiv with unpredictable consequences.
Yermak said Ukraine was approaching a critical moment on the front line and expressed hope that the American aid package would be approved in April.
“We know that Putin is preparing a new wave of mobilization, and we believe that new Russian counter-offensive operations might begin in late May or early June. Of course, we must be prepared for this. We still critically need additional air defense systems, because without “With them, we will not be able to protect our cities. I want to emphasize that now is a critical moment. It is very important that the package is approved this month,” Politico quotes Ermak as saying.
Asked whether Ukraine would address US concerns regarding attacks on Russian infrastructure, the head of President Zelensky’s office said: “We must destroy their critical infrastructure because the only language they understand is force.”
Commenting on the consequences for Kyiv of Donald Trump’s possible victory in the presidential election in November, Ermak said that he does not believe that President Ronald Reagan’s party will stop supporting Ukraine.
“Reagan understood the Soviet Union and Russia, and anyone who understands this will continue to support our fighters. There is an understanding that dictators never stop voluntarily and they must be stopped,” Yermak is sure.
The Politico newspaper notes that the Ukrainian leadership is making efforts to intensify contacts with Republicans, in particular, in the context of lobbying for the aid package proposed by the White House for Ukraine.
