Ukraine increases electricity imports after Russian attacks

At the same time, electricity exports have been stopped, the Energy Ministry said. The largest private Ukrainian electricity producer DTEK lost 50 percent of its production capacity in the attacks on Friday, according to the utility Yasno.

The attacks hit power generation and distribution facilities, including thermal and hydroelectric power plants. “The enemy has hit the network nodes and transformers badly,” Yasno boss Serhiy Kovalenko said on state television.

Energy infrastructure attacked

On Sunday, Russia attacked energy infrastructure in three Ukrainian regions, including the western Lviv region. In the region around the capital Kiev, power lines were damaged and 1,400 households in two towns were without power. The attacks on Friday had already caused significant power outages.
