According to Shmyhal, minefields cover more than 40% of Ukraine’s total area. “This not only makes it difficult for people to move around, but also causes major disruption to agriculture, one of our main industries,” he said.
Due to the Russian war, he says, residential areas are the most affected. “Russia is focusing on infrastructure in densely populated areas,” he added.
Industrial buildings such as chemical and steel plants and transport infrastructure are also among the Russians’ targets.
