After violent attacks on the energy infrastructure, Ukraine has restricted electricity supply in the country. State power utility Ukrenergo said today that its headquarters were “forced to restrict power supply to industry and commerce” from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. due to “power shortages” resulting from the attack. This will happen to the same extent in all regions of the country.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the attack as “premeditated, calculated and underhanded” in his nightly video message. Russia targeted “vital civilian infrastructure” with almost 60 missiles and more than 20 Shahed drones of Iranian design and did not target “a single military target.”

Moscow argues with retaliation

The Russian Defense Ministry described the attacks as retaliation for Ukrainian attacks in which the “Kiev regime” attempted to damage Russian energy facilities. Ukraine has targeted oil refineries and storage facilities on Russian territory in recent months.

Ukrainian authorities had reported attacks on energy infrastructure in at least six regions. According to Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko, the attacks targeted power generation plants in numerous regions of the country, including Poltava, Zaporizhzhia and Lviv. According to regional governor Olexandr Prokudin, the city of Kherson in the south of the country was also partially without power.
