Ukraine Confession: Massive Explosion Damages Crimean Bridge

On October 8, 2022, a massive explosion severely damaged the Crimean Bridge. Now there seems to be a confession from Ukraine.

A huge explosion, traffic was restricted for weeks – the pictures of the Crimean bridge went around the world. To date, however, there has been little comment as to who was responsible. Until now: Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maljar listed the attack on Telegram on Saturday as one of her country’s most important achievements in the war so far – apparently the first direct admission of Kiev’s involvement.

“Incompetent” – Wagner is still so dangerous for Putin

“273 days ago we carried out the first attack on the Crimean bridge to disrupt logistics for the Russians,” Maljar wrote. As further successes she named the sinking of the cruiser “Moskva”. The Russian side has denied that the ship’s sinking was due to a Ukrainian attack. In a reaction to Malyar’s post, Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Sunday once more described the government of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as a terrorist regime. In an online statement, she condemned the attack.

Kiev is pushing for a commitment to join the NATO summit

Ahead of the NATO summit, however, Ukraine is continuing to push for a clear commitment to join the alliance. “At the summit in Vilnius we expect a clear invitation and direction to join NATO,” said the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, the German Press Agency. Even if accession will not happen overnight, one expects that NATO will no longer allow any ambiguity. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the heads of state and government of the 31 NATO countries will meet in Vilnius, Lithuania, to discuss, among other things, Ukraine’s prospects for NATO membership.

Makeiev warned that the mistakes made at the 2008 NATO summit in Bucharest should not be repeated. At that time, Germany in particular, under the then Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), had resisted Ukraine’s rapid admission to the alliance. “If Ukraine had already been a member of NATO in 2014, the annexation of Crimea, the war in Donbass and now the large-scale Russian war of aggression would certainly not have happened,” said the ambassador. Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
