Ukraine bargains with Russia for a “just peace”

On Tuesday, Ukraine announced that it would not retain control of the Russian territories it acquired during a surprise cross-border operation, proposing to cease attacks if Moscow accepted a “just peace.” A senior Russian official responded with threats of “woe and destruction.”

Georgiy Tekhy, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, stated on Tuesday that Kyiv had no interest in “taking control” of Russian land and justified Ukraine’s actions as “completely legitimate.” He emphasized that “the speed with which Russia agrees to a just peace… will expedite the cessation of Ukrainian defense forces’ attacks on Russia.”
Simultaneously, Ukraine imposed movement restrictions over a 20-km area in the Sumy region bordering the Kursk region.
In Moscow, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, warned that Ukrainian forces would face appropriate retribution for their so-called terrorist attack on Russian soil.
