There have been attacks by Ukrainian-made drones in the Russian capital, Moscow, and elsewhere in mainland Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered increased border security.
According to reports by TASS and Associated Press on the 28th of last month (local time), Moscow Governor Andrei Vorobyov said that a gas station in Gubastovo, Kolomna District, Moscow Province was hit by a drone that targeted civilian infrastructure, but did not suffer any damage. Foreign media reported that the drone was UJ-2 made in Ukraine and had a maximum flight distance of regarding 800 km.
Gubastovo is a village regarding 100 km from Moscow. The Guardian said that if the attack by a Ukrainian drone is correct, it would be the deepest part of mainland Russia since the outbreak of war in Ukraine last year.
Bryansk Governor Aleksandr Bogomats said Russian forces had shot down a Ukrainian drone in the Bryansk region this morning.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said the previous night that a Ukrainian drone had attempted to attack civilian infrastructure in the southern Krasnodar and Adygea regions, but had been shot down. A fire, believed to be caused by a drone attack, broke out at an oil storage facility in the Krasnodar Territory. Belgorod governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said three drones attacked Belgorod the night before, causing minor damage to buildings and vehicles.
The Associated Press pointed out that the drone attacks that occurred from the night before to this morning raise questions regarding Russia’s defense capabilities.
On this day, airport operations were suspended and broadcasting stations were hacked in Russia. An unidentified object was identified in the sky above St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport this morning, and airport operations were temporarily suspended until noon. The Russian Ministry of Defense issued a statement saying, “As a result of hacking into the servers of radio stations and TV channels, information regarding airstrikes was sent from some regions,” and “the information is false.”
Russian state media have pointed to Ukraine as being behind the attack, but Ukraine has not made an official statement.
