Ukraine announced, on Monday, that the first shipment of grain will depart from the port of Chornomorsk, on Wednesday, following concluding an agreement with Russia in this regard.
Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kobrakov confirmed the resumption of grain exports stuck in Ukraine since the start of the Russian offensive on February 24 “this week”, in accordance with the agreement signed on July 22 in Istanbul between Kyiv, Moscow and Turkey, under the auspices of the United Nations.
In a telephone conversation with Kubrakov, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar expressed Turkey’s “satisfaction” with this announcement.
“It is important that a first ship be able to leave as quickly as possible,” he said.
He added, “Work is continuing intensively at the Joint Coordination Center,” without giving a specific date for the start of receiving the ships. The task of this center is to conduct inspections of ships departing and heading to the Black Sea, as requested by Moscow.
According to Kubrakov, the main obstacle to the export of grain is the risk of Russian bombing, especially following the strike on Saturday at the Odessa port on the Black Sea, which is vital for shipping operations.
