The visit of the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to New Delhi was the first in relations between the two countries at this level since February 2022. Kyiv intends to increase trade with Moscow’s long-time economic partner at a time when it is cutting imports from Russia.
Kuleba emphasized that during the negotiations the parties also paid special attention to the “peace formula” and the next steps towards its implementation. In turn, Jaishankar called the restoration of trade volumes the immediate goal.
Earlier it was reported that India stopped purchasing premium grades of Russian oil because it was offered at a price above the ceiling set by Western countries. Also, Indian companies no longer receive oil from tankers that are subject to sanctions.
In January, India cut its purchases of Russian coal by more than half. According to preliminary data, the situation worsened in February. At the same time, at the end of February it was reported that India was negotiating the secret supply of hundreds of thousands of ammunition to Ukraine.
Against this background, information has appeared in a number of media outlets that India, which is the largest importer of Russian weapons, may abandon them in favor of contracts with the United States.
